Lakeland's Phlebotomy Program prepares students for the ASCP(PBT) certification examination and successful employment as a phlebotomist.
Lakeland's program includes 160 hours of clinical experience in an area hospital/outpatient drawing center. This clinical experience is arranged by the college and includes drawing blood from patients. This type of clinical experience is highly preferred and required by most area employers.
Employment of phlebotomists is projected to grow 22% from 2020 to 2030.
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook for phlebotomists.
About 19,500 openings for phlebotomists are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force.
Students must be 18 years or older to take the Phlebotomy Clinical Practicum (second eight weeks of the second semester). Students will not be able to complete the program without completion of the Phlebotomy Clinical Practicum.
Students must meet with the program director.
