Polysomnographers, also known as sleep technicians, study the science of sleep and apply it in clinical environments to help those suffering from sleep-related issues.
Lakeland's polysomnography program prepares students to complete the national exam to become a registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT) and go on to work in hospitals or private sleep labs.
Our program equips you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel as a sleep technologist. You'll gain a strong foundation in sleep science and bioelectrical studies like EKG, EEG, and EMG. The program delves into:
- Monitoring respiratory functions
- Observing cardiopulmonary physiology
- Conducting PAP titrations for sleep apnea treatment
- Performing diagnostic sleep studies to assist physicians in diagnosing sleep disorders and related health conditions
Lakeland's polysomnography certificate program is focused and designed to prepare you for a rewarding career in sleep health. This 32-credit program spans three semesters:
- Fall semester is dedicated to coursework
- Spring and summer terms are focused on hands-on clinical experience.
Lakeland's program follows the most recent version of the American Association of Sleep Technologists standard curriculum. Students learn in Lakeland's state-of-the-art health building which houses the latest technology for effective learning.
Upon successful completion of the program, you'll be eligible to take the national exam to become a registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT).
