Radiography Program Mission Statement

Lakeland's Radiography program prepares competent entry-level radiographers with the skills necessary to effectively deliver quality care to patients with diverse health needs.

Program Goals
Goal #1: Students will possess the knowledge and technical skills required for career entry into the radiography profession.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will demonstrate accurate positioning skills
  • Students will select appropriate technical factors
Goal #2: Students will communicate effectively.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will assess patient condition through effective communication.
  • Students will demonstrate oral communication skills.
  • Students will model professional behaviors that are appropriate for the healthcare environment.
Goal #3: Students will utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will assess patient condition and adapt to situational variables.
  • Students will modify standard procedures to accommodate patient condition and other variables.
Goal #4: The program will meet or exceed the Program Effectiveness Outcomes.
  • Annual program completion rate of 75%.
  • Five-year average credentialing examination pass rate of not less than 75 percent at the first attempt.
  • Five-year average credentialing examination score at or above the national average.
  • Five-year average job placement rate of not less than 75 percent within twelve months of graduation
  • Graduates will express satisfaction with the program with a rating of 3.75 average or better on a 5-point scale on the graduate follow-up survey.
  • Employers will express satisfaction with graduates' performance with a rating of 3.75 average or better on a 5-point scale on the employer survey.

 

Program Objectives

Upon completion of the program, graduates will exhibit the following professional characteristics. The graduate will be able to:

  • Utilize prudent judgment in administering ionizing radiation to produce diagnostic images
  • Focus on providing optimum patient care in a society that is becoming increasingly diverse and experiencing generational, cultural and ethnic shifts
  • Work with others in a team relationship
  • Understand the intricacies associated with providing direct patient care in today's health care setting
  • Skillfully use modern technologies to research and retrieve information, weigh and discriminate between good and poor sources of information, and take action based upon the acquisition of new information and knowledge
  • Protect the security and confidentiality associated with patient medical information
  • Promote career-long learning, where the radiographer assumes the role of student and that of teacher
  • Collaborate with others within the medical imaging community to promote standards of excellence in the medical imaging sciences
  • Contribute to the education and clinical skills development of radiologic science students
