The parks and recreation management program prepares professionals for rewarding careers in the exciting and rapidly growing field of parks, recreation and leisure services. Students are trained in the essential concepts related to business, such as management, finance and economics; park management and public speaking as well as state and local government political science. The program also provides hands-on experience through an internship. Graduates earn an Associate of Applied Business degree and can seek immediate entry-level management employment or transfer to a four-year school for completion of a bachelor's degree. The college has a special articulation agreement that allows transfer of Lakeland credits into the Kent State University recreation park and tourism bachelor's degree track.
Parks and recreation workers may work in a variety of settings such as city parks and recreation departments, federal and state agencies, metro parks, community centers, and fitness clubs.
