Commencement Severe Weather Plan

Lakeland Community College
Commencement Severe Weather Protocol

In the event of severe weather (including lightning or wind gusts over 60 mph), the ceremony will move into the Athletic & Fitness Center (AFC). The decision of whether or not to prepare the AFC will be made by the college president by 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday preceding commencement.

Due to limited seating inside the AFC, each graduate may invite three guests to view the ceremony in the main gym. Guests must have a wristband to enter the main gym. Additional guests may view the ceremony via a live video feed in the auxiliary gym.

If dangerous weather is forecast, an announcement will be posted on www.lakelandcc.edu and the Lakeland Emergency Hotline at 440-525-7242. Graduates and their guests are asked to check these sources before traveling to campus.

In the event of an unexpected fast-moving storm on the Saturday morning of commencement, the college president will issue a time delay. When the weather clears and is safe for the ceremony to begin, the ceremony will take place in the tent.
