| Lakeland will hold the 45th annual commencement exercises on Saturday, May 12. Over 3,000 thousand friends and family members of the graduates are expected to attend the ceremony at an outdoor pavilion on the Kirtland campus
Lake County Commissioner, Daniel P. Troy, will be the keynote speaker. Lakeland Commencement 2012 highlights include: - A total of 878 students will receive degrees. - The oldest graduate is 65 and the youngest is 17. - During the ceremony, the college will present its highest honor, the Distinguished Community Service Award, to Kenneth M. Iwashita for his time, energies and talents in service to the college as a decade-long member of its Board of Trustees. The commencement ceremony will be broadcast on the Lakeland Cable Network on Time Warner starting Monday, May 21 through Sunday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. daily (Thursdays excluded). About Daniel P. Troy Daniel P. Troy has served as the Lake County Commissioner since 1998 and currently serves his fourth term in that elected office. Prior to his role as commissioner, he served seven terms totaling 14 years in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1983 to 1996. During that tenure, Troy was chairman of the Ohio House Ways and Means Committee, the Education Subcommittee of the House Finance and Appropriations Committee, and the Joint House-Senate Education Oversight Committee. As State Representative, he was instrumental in securing the passage of numerous pieces of major legislation, including Ohio’s Solid Waste Law, the Lake Erie Phosphorous Reduction Act, and a major rewrite of Ohio’s Enterprise Zone and Tax Abatement Program. Prior to his service in the Ohio House, Troy was a city councilman and council president in the City of Willowick for five terms. Commissioner Troy is a lifetime resident of Northeast Ohio, a graduate of Cleveland St. Joseph High School and the University of Dayton with a degree in political science, and a United States Army veteran. | |
