The scholarship was available to a teacher of French at the high school or college level. Houlis teaches French part-time at Cleveland State University. She won the judges over with her essay which described how she would use the pictures that she will take in France to improve her teaching of French in the future.
Houlis will be one of several Lakeland students enrolled in the “Photography in France” course slated for July 16-25, 2012. She plans to put the scholarship money toward the tuition of the course. She and her fellow students will spend time shooting images in Paris and Rouen, Cleveland’s “Sister City.”
Students will have their work exhibited in both Rouen and Cleveland after the trip.
