Is Distance Learning for Me?

Testimonial Center Testimonials

...(Distance Learning has given me the) ability to prepare for a career change and be able to work at any time or place on it and in a self paced manner. Thank you for making this course available online. Without courses like this, I would not be going to college. I work full time (plus!) and I am a mother of two with a husband that changes shifts every four weeks. The flexibility this type of course offers was exactly what I needed. I am already putting to use at work information I learned these past eight weeks.

How to Be a Good Distance Learner

Distance Learning requires students to work independently without a lot of interaction and prompting from the instructor. That means it is your responsibility to process and learn from the information provided by your instructor without much direct help from the instructor.

Students who are successful in a Distance Learning environment are:

a. Independent
b. Self Motivated
c. Self Disciplined
d. Good at time management
e. Have a keen interest in the course

Good Learning Skills for Distance Learning

1. Distance Learning allows for lots of flexibility. However, it requires a high level of self discipline, and self motivation on your part.

2. Allocating time each week to your course work, then sticking to that schedule, will help in your success.

3. You will need good reading and comprehensive skills, as these are the main methods of communication for all courses.

4. Since you will not be attending regular campus classes where your instructor covers the contents of the material, you will need to do the required reading and research for your particular class.

5. Distance Learning requires a great deal of written communications, submitting homework, sending e-mail to your Instructor, posting on discussion boards, or "talking" with other students in chat rooms.

Note: TeleClassroom studies are set up with an Instructor at a different location, in some cases, from your own.
