Lakeland Library is pleased to announce that Harvey
Pekar will be making a guest appearance at the reading and discussion
series, Modern Marvels: Jewish Adventures in the Graphic Novel. The
program, featuring a discussion of his autobiographical work,
The Quitter, will be held on Wednesday,
March 12, 2008, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Lakeland Library (3rd Flr., C-Building).
FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!
Harvey Pekar has been changing the American comics scene since
1976 with his American Splendor series. Pekar's comics feature
stories drawn by several artists such as R. Crumb, Joe Zabel, G.
Budgett, Gary Dumm, and now Dean Haspiel with The Quitter. Pekar
bills his books as coming "from off the streets of Cleveland" and
that's the kind of stories readers get--no bombast in either tag
lines or narratives, no romanticizing of either sex or violence,
according to Lambiek.net.
