Having worked
with the Lakeland Center for Business & Industry
group for several years, I have to say that this
is a first class group to work with. Our training
needs have been met on a most professional level.
Lakeland Community College is a tremendous resource
for our community and I highly recommend the
Center for Business & Industry there.

The Theory of Constraints
material was the perfect follow-on to all of the
Lean Manufacturing work that we'd done.....it has
made a world of difference in how we schedule and
flow work through our shop.
Through the Center
for Business & Industry, we were able to bring
in a certified trainer for two programs: The 7
Habits for Highly Effective People for my senior
shop floor personnel and the 7 Habits for Managers
for my supervisors and management team. I truly
believe that the 7 Habits material is an invaluable
catalyst in fostering personal growth and development.
My folks have told me how the material has helped
them in both their work and personal lives.

We
have been using Inscape’s DISC Classic profile
and associated training modules for over six months
and have found it to be a good addition to our
core training program. We initially implemented
the program with our Green Belt and Black Belts
to support our fairly young Six Sigma program and
our new leaders for Six Sigma projects. These internal
project leaders are required to take leadership
roles for change projects involving multiple departments
and multiple levels of management within the organization.
Not all of these Green and Black Belts are managers
nor did they necessarily have previous leadership
experience or training. Working with our Master
Black Belt, I planned a series of core continuing
education classes to help strengthen their change
leadership and communication skills. We included
a 3.5 hour Introduction to DISC in this training.
The DISC assessment
and training helped our Green and Black Belts build
the personal and interpersonal
awareness necessary for growing competence in Interpersonal
Savvy, a key characteristic required for success
in their role. Being primarily technical, many of
our associates are uncomfortable with “soft
skills” classes and do not typically like attending
this type of training. After participating in the
first few required classes, I have been asked to
replicate the program for several business units
and am considering making DISC a core component of
our organization’s overall training program.
Using a light-hearted
and tactical approach to explaining complex behavior,
the DISC program has appealed to
an audience not normally comfortable talking about “soft” skills.
The training component discourages creating labels
for behavior and clearly delineates itself as a communication
styles assessment, not a personality measure. When
done with an in tact team that is fairly comfortable
with one another, it can be a very powerful learning
exercise. With teams experiencing conflict, it can
set the stage for more effective team building.
If you would like
more information on how we implemented this program,
please don’t hesitate to contact
me at 614-841-6454 or andrea.vicars@emersonnetworkpower.com.
I’d be glad to share our strategies for insuring
positive outcomes for the program.

Thank you for
the opportunity to express our feeling towards
The Center for Business & Industry.
They (CBI) have demonstrated a very high level
of professional performance in securing grant money
for our training programs in the area of Mobile
Hydraulics. We have been able to achieve success
in our goals of designing and delivering training
programs that have not only raised our employees’ skill
levels but also provided the corporation with real
cost savings. With this training we have been able
to reduce the "downtime" of our vehicles,
reduce the replacement of parts that were still
functional, and reduce the troubleshooting time
spent on diagnosing problems. They are highly committed
to providing superior service and display drive,
desire and spirit to help us achieve our goals.

I
have recently had the honor of working with
Lakeland, and The Center for Business and
Industry, and I found that the staff was
very informative and helpful. Even when there
were a few areas that Lakeland couldn't help;
they were able to direct me to people and
programs that could get our company further
ahead in our venture. I have recommended
Lakeland to both vendors and customers, who
would like to enhance their company’s
education in a number of venues. The help
that was given to us by The Center for Business
and Industry was just a first step for our
company, we look forward to working with
Lakeland in many more ventures and we are
sure we will be just as satisfied then as
we are now.
It has been
a real pleasure and we are grateful for all
that you have done. Keep up the great work!
You are leaders in your field and we will
continue our relationship with you and recommend
only you to all who ask.

CBI
stays connected with its customers by having
them participate in conferences where they
can share their challenges and businesses
with the college. Recently, a Lakeland CBI
customer was part of a panel discussion revolving
around various manufacturing practices. Here
are his comments: I had the opportunity to
speak with both educators and administrators
during the Enterprise Ohio Network conference
last fall. I saw in them a genuine interest
to learn more about businesses like ours
and other local companies, with the ultimate
goal of providing continual educational improvements
that are more in line with real world need.

We found the
training and program content to be exceptional.
Our contact with Lakeland CC staff was top
notch, and professional. We found the DiSC
assessments to be invaluable to our company,
as we continually improve the quality of our
team, and how we interact. The Franklin Covey
MS Outlook Training was excellent, professional,
and invaluable to us.
I would highly
recommend The Center for Business & Industry,
and intend to continue to utilize the excellent
programs they offer.
Thanks,
