Guidelines
for Academic Success Series by

Community College Counseling Services Guidelines
For Academic Success Series, 2003
The
world is full of people telling
you what it means to be successful,
but only you can define success
for yourself. The world is also
full of rules and guidelines for
finding success, but only you can
decide if you will follow them
or break them to attain your success.
Knowing what you want from life
(your definition of success for
yourself), setting the goals, and
working toward achieving them are
very difficult tasks, involving
a great deal of work from you,
and help from others.
This series
is written to give you some of
that help. The guides will help
you to know what it takes to
succeed in college, and to know
who is here at Lakeland to help
you. Only you can decide if this
is a success that you want, and
how much of this help you will
use.
Review
the list of guides below (shown
in quotation marks), and choose
those that will be of help to
you. You can find these on the
Lakeland website, or in the Lakeland
Counseling Office. Meet with
your counselor if you need more
help in any of these areas, and
the two of you can discuss strategies
for improvement.
TO
BE A GOOD STUDENT, YOU NEED SOME BASIC
SKILLS... (Countless studies, and
years of working with students have told college
professionals (and now you) that there are certain
basic skills that one needs in order to find success
in the classroom.)
