Lakeland Community College requires placement testing in English,
reading and math. Students who plan to enroll in an English or math
course, or register for their 13th cumulative credit, may be required
to take the COMPASS
Placement Test first.
If you
are required to take the placement test, you should call the Admissions
Office at 525.7100 to schedule a time to take the test. There is no
fee to take the test and it takes about two hours to complete the entire
test. Test results are distributed at the end of each testing session.
If you
may elect not to participate, you should obtain a Request for Waiver
of the placement exam form from the Counseling Office prior to registering
for classes.
Who Must Participate in the Placement Testing?
Students MUST participate if they:
- Register for the 13th
cumulative credit, or
- Register for their first
English class, or
- Register for their first

Who May Elect Not to Participate
The following students may be waived from the Placement Test:
- New students registering
for 12 or fewer credits during their first semester at Lakeland.
- New students presenting
appropriate ACT and/or SAT test scores in Math and English.
- New students with degrees
from other accredited institutions.
- Senior citizens not
seeking degrees.
- New students registering
for classes as a transient student from another college or university.
- Students registering
for courses) as an audit.
- Students transferring
to Lakeland from another accredited institution with
- at least 15 semester
credits.
