Emergency Management Planning & Administration

*Note: All EMGT courses are online.

Emergency Management is often used interchangeably with “homeland security” or “disaster planning". Recent events show an increase in natural disasters, terrorist incidents, and other devastating events. This has prompted many local, state, and federal agencies to revamp administrative structures, response procedures, and improve communications.

Lakeland’s Emergency Management Planning & Administration program covers what is known as “all-hazards.” Students will become skilled in reducing public vulnerability to natural, technological, and intentional disasters.

The program’s core courses are now completely online. Students may complete other courses such as English or Social Science at Lakeland or at another college to transfer to Lakeland toward an Associate of Applied Science degree. Students can also choose the certificate option.

The Lakeland Advantage:

• Lakeland is the only community college in Ohio with international accreditation through the IFSAC
• The program is endorsed by FEMA, the Ohio Department of Public Safety, the Lake County, Ashtabula County and Geauga County Departments of Emergency Services, and the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Red Cross
• Lakeland was the first college in Ohio to offer an associate degree program in emergency management
