Program Philosophy, Goals and Objectives

Program Philosophy

In keeping with the mission, philosophy and goals of the college, the Radiologic Technology Program attempts to educate and prepare competent and responsible radiologic technologists so that they can deliver the best quality health care to patients. Inaddition, the program fosters professionalism, personal growth and development, and self-actualization.

Program Goals
The goals of the Radiologic Technology Program are to:

Provide students with the knowledge and the technical skills for career entry into the profession of radiologic technology.

Prepare the students to meet the criteria to sit for the ARRT Registry Examination.
Cultivate personal growth and development through humanities, social science, and communication sources.

Develop interpersonal skills and attitudes needed to interact with patients, radiology staff, and other health care professionals.

Promote student awareness of medical ethics and develop professionalism.

Instill career-ladder concept and the necessity of continuing education.

To be in compliance with the Standards of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology in the following areas.
Passing rates on credentialing examinations of 75% or better.
Average score of graduates on credentialing exam at or above national average.
Graduation rate of 75% or better.
A job placement rate of 75% or better within six months of graduation.

Program Objectives

Upon completion of this program, the radiologic technology graduates should be able to:

Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, positioning, and radiographic techniques to accurately demonstrate anatomical structures on a radiograph or other imaging equipment.
Determine exposure factors to achieve optimum radiographic techniques with minimum radiation exposure to the patient.
Evaluate radiographic images for appropriate positioning and quality.
Apply the principles of radiation protection for the patient, self, and others.
Provide patient care and comfort
Recognize emergency patient conditions and initiate lifesaving first aid and basic life-support procedures.
Evaluate the performance of radiologic systems, know the safe limits of equipment operation, and report malfunctions to the proper authority.
Exercise independent judgment and discretion in the technical performance of medical imaging procedures.
Participate in radiologic quality assurance programs.
Provide patient/public education related to radiologic procedures and radiation protection/safety.
