Classrooms

Nursing students attend classes in new modern classrooms in the Health Technologies building. There are 2 large lecture halls equipped with state of the art audiovisual and computer technologies. Other classrooms are equipped for use by smaller groups of students.

Nursing Skills Lab

The Nursing Skills Lab is one of the best organized, staffed and equipped learning laboratories in Ohio. With the addition of the new Health Technologies building in 1996, the laboratory space was extensively remodeled and a simulated ICU unit added. Nursing faculty members assist students in their practice and mastery of nursing skills prior to clinical experiences.

The nursing skills lab also is home to the Patient Simulation Mannequin.

Patient Simulation Mannequin

The mannequin simulates a real patient and has a heartbeat and pulse, breaths and even speaks. Students learn physical assessment and perform multiple procedures on "SimMan". The use of the simulator allows students to participate and manage patient care in controlled clinical scenarios which promote critical thinking, competence and teamwork.

Health Science Learning Resource Center

The HSLRC is equipped with more than 30 new computers, several videotape players and interactive videodisc stations for students use. This lab is also staffed by a lab assistant during open hours. The lab is open several hours a week for student use of computer assisted instruction programs, viewing of tapes from a large selection of titles in the health care field and the use of computers and printers for individual student activities. The computers are networked with all of the most popular word processing, database, spreadsheet and desktop publishing programs as well as Internet and some E-mail capabilities. * Open PC Labs

In addition to the above HSLRC, there are two other PC lab on campus that provide open access to all students. They are equipped with more than 40 Intel Pentium computers, all with Library access and several with Internet and CD-ROM access. Information regarding these labs is provided on a quarterly basis through the school newspaper, the Lakelander.
