Changes for 2010-11!
Note please that some of the exact changes are subject to change until they are approved by the college. Refer to the 2010-11 College Catalog for the approved language.
Computer Science Programming- ITCS
Computer Science/Computer Information Systems Concentration (9259) – Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Update courses within the elective groups to reflect other changes made in the department’s curriculum.
Computer Science/Computer Information Systems Certificate (2591) – Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7.
Interactive Game Programming Concentration (9252) – Based on the department’s program review, this concentration is being removed from the catalog due to low enrollment. A modified version of it will be designed for future use in the MDIA department.
Interactive Game Programming Certificate (2552) – Remove the certificate from the catalog due to low enrollment. A modified version of it may be designed for future use in the MDIA department.
Internet Programming Concentration (9256) – Remove ITIS 1130 Introduction to Web Design (1 credit) and ITCS 2140 CGI Programming (3 credits) from the requirements. Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Replace the requirement of ITON 1725 Introduction to the Linux/Unix Operating System (2 credits) with the option of ITON 1725 or ITON 1740 Red Hat Fundamentals (3 credits). Add ITDB 1405 Oracle PL/SQL Programming (2 credits) from the electives list to the requirements. Rearrange the sequence of several courses in the program. Change the program total from 71 credits to 69/70 credits. Update the technical electives. ITIS 1130 and ITCS 2140 are being removed to consolidate the curriculum. Other changes are to update/enhance the program.
Internet Programming Certificate (2561) – Remove ITIS 1130 and ITCS 2140 from the requirements. Add ITDB 1405 to the requirements. Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Change certificate total from 32 to 30 credits. Changes are to align the certificate with the degree concentration.
PC Enterprise Programming Concentration (9246) – Move ITIS 1115 Internet Technologies and Concepts (2 credits) and ITON 1725 Introduction to the Linux/Unix Operating System (2 credits) from the requirements to the electives list. Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Replace the requirement of ITON 2020 Supporting Microsoft Windows or ITON 2030 Windows Vista Configuration with the option of ITON 2030 or the new course ITON 2050 Windows 7 Configuration. Change the technical electives from 2 to 4 credits. Change program total from 72 to 70 credits. Update the technical electives. ITIS 1115 is being removed due to similarities in content with other courses in the program. Other changes are to update/enhance the program.
PC Enterprise Programming Certificate (2461) - Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. The change is to align the certificate with the degree concentration.
Robots and Autonomous Machines Certificate (4224) – This certificate was created based on collaboration between the IT & CS and Electronics Engineering Technology departments. Both departments are removing the certificate from the catalog due to low enrollment.
Database – ITDB
Oracle Database Applications Developer Concentration (9257) – Remove the concentration from the catalog due to low enrollment.
Oracle Database Applications Developer Certificate (2571) – Remove the certificate from the catalog due to low enrollment.
Database Administration Concentration (9258) – The concentration includes an Oracle emphasis and a Microsoft emphasis. These are currently combined in the semester-by-semester catalog presentation through the use of multiple “OR” options and footnotes. The proposal includes separating the 2 emphases in the catalog presentation. Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7 in both emphases. Replace the requirement of ITON 2020 Supporting Microsoft Windows or ITON 2030 Windows Vista Configuration with the option of ITON 2030 or the new course ITON 2050 Windows 7 Configuration in the Microsoft emphasis. Update the electives lists.
Database Administration Certificate (2581) – Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7.
Information Systems – ITIS
Microcomputer Support Specialist Major (9243) – Change the program title to User Support Specialist Major. Remove ITCS 2812 Visual Basic for Applications (3 credits) from the requirements. Current requirements include a choice of ITIS 2510 Help Desk Concepts and Management (2 credits) or BUSM 2380 Training Skills and Techniques (3 credits). The proposal includes changing ITIS 2510 to a requirement and moving BUSM 2380 to the electives list. Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Replace the requirement of ITON 2020 Supporting Microsoft Windows or ITON 2030 Windows Vista Configuration with the option of ITON 2030 or the new course ITON 2050 Windows 7 Configuration. Add ITON 2031 Support and Troubleshoot Applications on Vista or ITON 2051 Windows 7 Enterprise Support Technician to the requirements (2 credits). Rearrange the sequence of several courses. Change the technical electives from 1-2 credits to 3 credits. Update the electives list. Material from ITCS 2812 is being covered within ITCS 2590 User Support Capstone and so it is being removed in order to consolidate the curriculum. Other changes reflect an increased program emphasis on computer support knowledge and skills as well as update the program to include Windows 7.

Add ITIS 2510 Help Desk Concepts and Management (2 credits) and ITON 1205 Network+ and Networking Essentials (2 credits) to the requirements. Change certificate total from 28 to 32 credits. Changes parallel the increased program emphasis on computer support knowledge and skills. They also update the program to include Windows 7.
Web Content Developer Concentration (9251) – Remove ITIS 1130 Introduction to Web Design (1 credit) from the requirements. Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Change program total from 72 to 71 credits. Update the electives list. Changes are based on the department’s program review. ITIS 1130 is being removed to consolidate the curriculum. Other changes are to update/enhance the program.
Web Content Developer Certificate (2511) – Remove ITIS 1130 Introduction to Web Design (1 credit) from the requirements. Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Changes are to align the certificate with the degree concentration.
Microcomputer Web-Based Collaboration Certificate (2512) – Convert from a 24 credit certificate to an 8 credit mini-certificate. Change title to Web-Based Collaboration Services Certificate. Remove ACCT 1100 Introduction to Financial Accounting (4 credits), BUSM 1300 Introduction to Business (3 credits), BUSM 1700 Principles of E-Business (3 credits), ITCS 1105 Web Programming I (2 credits), ITIS 1125 Using Microsoft Office: InfoPath Forms (credits), and 3 credits of technical electives from the requirements. Add ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista or ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7 (1 credit) to the requirements. Based on the department’s program review, material from ITIS 1125 has been combined into ITIS 2100, eliminating the need for it in the program. All non-essential courses are being removed to convert the certificate to a mini-certificate in order to make it more marketable.
IT Security Certificate (2495) – Replace the requirement of ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Replace the requirement of ITON 2030 Windows Vista Configuration with the option of ITON 2030 or the new course ITON 2050 Windows 7 Configuration.
Technical Communications Professional Certificate (2541) – Replace ITIS 1130 Introduction to Web Design (1 credit) with ITCS 1105 Web Programming I (2 credits) in the Web Media Electives Group. Change certificate total from 32 to 32/33 credits. This change provides students with the enhanced option to design, create, and manage Web pages.
ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7 (1 credit) - This new course is designed to provide an overview of using Microsoft’s newest operating system that is being bundled with most new PCs. It will be used as an option with ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista in all programs that currently include ITON 1030.
ITON 2050 Windows 7 Configuration (2 credits) – This new course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to configure, implement, and maintain a Windows 7 Operating System. It will help students prepare for one of the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist exams. It will be used as an option with ITON 2030 Windows Vista Configuration in all programs the currently include ITON 2030.
ITON 2051 Windows 7 Enterprise Support Technician (2 credits) – This new course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to support and troubleshoot applications on a Windows 7 client in an enterprise. It will help students prepare for one of the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist exams. It will be used as an option with ITON 2031 Support and Troubleshoot Applications in Vista in all programs the currently include ITON 2031.
ITON 2232 Configuring Microsoft Office SharePoint Server – (2 credits) – This new course is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills necessary to plan, configure, and maintain a Microsoft SharePoint Server. It will be a required course in a new certificate program.
Operating System/Networking – ITON
Microsoft Networking Concentration (9249) – Change the title to Networking Concentration. Remove 12 credits from the requirements (ITCS 1840 Visual Basic.NET Programming I, ITIS 1100 Internet: Services, Tools, and Web Page Creation, ITIS 2365 Network and Security Design, and 4 credits of technical electives). Add 12 credits to the requirements (ITON 1740 Red Hat Linux Computing Essentials, ITON 1750 Red Hat Linux Core System Administration, ITON 2750 Shell Script Programming, ITON 2770 Red Hat Network Applications Administration, ITON 2780 Red Hat Server Security Administration). Replace the requirement of ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Replace the requirement of ITON 2030 Windows Vista Configuration with the option of ITON 2030 or the new course ITON 2050 Windows 7 Configuration. Rearrange the sequence of several courses.
Over 70% of businesses are now using the Linux/Unix operating system for some of their servers. The changes to this concentration will provide graduates with knowledge and skills to manage both Microsoft and Linux/Unix systems and will prepare students for both Microsoft and Linux certification. Building on Lakeland’s status as the only Red Hat Linux Academy in the state of Ohio, the program will provide graduates with a distinct employment advantage.
Microsoft Networking Certificate (2491) – Replace the requirement of ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Replace the requirement of ITON 2030 Windows Vista Configuration with the option of ITON 2030 or the new course ITON 2050 Windows 7 Configuration. Remove ITON 2365 Network and Security Design (3 credits) from the requirements. Change certificate total from 25 to 22 credits. ITON 2365 is being removed because topics within it are sufficiently covered within other courses in the program.
Administering Converged Technologies Certificate (2493) – Remove from the catalog. Changes in technology have decreased the demand for the certificate.
Implementing Converged Technologies Certificate – Remove IT S 1115 Internet Technologies and Concepts (2 credits) and ITON 1205 Network+ and Networking Essentials (2 credit) from the requirements. Replace the requirement of ITON 1020 Using Microsoft Windows or ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Change certificate total from 21 to 17 credits. Topics from the 2 removed courses are covered within other courses in the program.
IT Service Support Certificate (2490) - Replace the requirement of ITON 1030 Using Microsoft Windows Vista with the option of ITON 1030 or the new course ITON 1050 Using Microsoft Windows 7. Replace the requirement of ITON 2030 Windows Vista Configuration with the option of ITON 2030 or the new course ITON 2050 Windows 7 Configuration. Replace the requirement of ITON 2031 Support and Troubleshoot Applications on Vista to ITON 2031 or ITON 2051 Windows 7 Enterprise Support Technician.
