The Student and Learning Support Services
Division should be one of the first stops for new students, a
frequent stop for continuing students and a last stop before graduation!
The departments within this division: Counseling, Learning Center
(tutoring), Testing Center, Transfer Center, Services for Students
with Disabilities, and the Men's and Women's Centers are here
to help students at every stage of their courses and with all
types of major or minor personal problems. |

The
counseling office provides admissions advising, career counseling,
academic advising, personal counseling and placement testing.
In the center of the counseling department is the Transfer
Center where students can find college catalogues and transfer
guides for self-reference or for discussion with a counselor.
Local college representatives make frequent visits to Lakeland's
campus which are scheduled through the Transfer
Center. Students may also use the "Discover" software
in counseling to gain personal insight into career questions.
Individual counselors also provide in-depth personal and career
testing to assist students in making good course and career
choices.

The
Learning Center provides professional, degreed, tutors
in all subjects for all Lakeland students at no charge.
Tutors are not just for students having trouble in a
course, but can help even strong students study more
effectively and retain material longer. The Testing
Center is located across the hall from the Learning
Center and is a place where instructors can choose to
leave make-up exams for students. There is also a computer
lab in the Learning Center where students can use self-paced
learning software, take practice exams, and access other
computer-based tutorials.

Students
with disabilities are provided comprehensive supports and accommodations
at Lakeland Community College. The counselors for Students with Disabilities
are located at the back of the Learning Center. Students are encouraged
to meet with counselors as early as possible in the enrollment process
to discuss and coordinate identified accommodations.

These
centers work hand-in-hand to assist members of the community in
gaining an education through both credit and non-credit courses,
workshops, and support groups. Adults and young adults who face
problems with child care, job satisfaction, parenting, budgeting,
or other stressors that affect their ability to get an education,
can seek help through the Men 's and Women's Centers at Lakeland. |
